Over the years I have seen some very funny Tee shirts. Some have been funny and extremely provocative and others have been very proactive for some pretty doubtful causes. The beauty of these shirts is that not only are they very comfortable to wear they are also very easy to tie dye or emblazon with marketing messages. To my knowledge, most graphic artists prefer to work on the 65gm weight cotton shirts because they hold the dyes better. From a users perspective, the heavier the weight in the cotton material the longer the shirt will last.

I have had promotional shirts printed in the past as 'freebies' and because I didn't know enough at that time about tee shirts and printing, I made some very fundamental errors. I went for the cheaper range tee shirt and after a couple of washings they all became embarrassingly misshaped and distorted with the printed message so badly twisted by the out-of-shape tee shirt it came out looking rather rude! This was not a good look for my business, believe me.

I have seen other novelty Tee shirts that have been so audacious that I have asked the person wearing the message as to who dared him to wear it. There was no dare simply a good sized bet and I was supposed to act as the adjudicator. Needless to say the shirt was worn for the prescribed event but it was changed before dinner.

I have seen these type of shirts in some of the poorest people on earth's markets. In Papua New Guinea the stall holders there will often be selling tee shirts they have managed to collect from the charity bins sent from western countries. These business people have managed to recycle these tee shirts many times over and in the process earn some food money for their families.

Novelty Tee shirts can be fun but extremely limited in where they can be worn with dignity. On the other hand a well made, well designed and well laundered tee shirt can be recycled many times in the most unexpected places.

Think of the fashion empires built by companies like,
Phat Farm, No Fear, Fubu, Billabong, etc.
They started with an idea printed on a T-shirt!
